Frequently Asked Questions

What Can I Do With This Service?

Schlow will provide access to a “Virtual Meeting Room” via the Zoom Video Conferencing service for up to two hours. Inside the room, you can video chat, text chat, share screens, conduct voting, give a lecture, etc with up to 300 people. Library staff will start the meeting for you, and try our best to help with any technical difficulties. Zoom boasts some of the easiest-to-use implementations of this technology that we have found. Examples might be a business meeting, an event with a speaker w/ slides, a class, or a social gathering with friends or loved ones.

Who is eligible to reserve a room?

Any Centre County Resident is welcome to reserve a room. To make sure only community members have access to this resource, we do require that you have a library card at Schlow Centre Region Library, or one of the Centre County Libraries in Bellefonte, Centre Hall, Philipsburg, or the Bookmobile. If you live in Centre County, but do not have a library card, you can sign up for one today here and use it right away.

When can I host a meeting?

Rooms can be reserved in 30-minute increments. The maximum session length for all zoom rooms is two hours. The first 15 minutes of your meeting is reserved for Schlow staff to go over how the Zoom meeting space works before they turn control of it over to you, so reserve your session accordingly.

What types of activities can I do in the meeting?

During the coronavirus crisis, we are lifting our usual meeting room restrictions for profit and for social only gatherings. You will have to sign a waiver for any legal risk of violating copyright or other illegal activity in your event.

What technology do I need?

If you can use the internet to connect, Zoom has clients for Windows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS. A device with a web camera is always helpful, but if you have none of these things, a regular telephone will also work for audio (long distance charges may apply). For more information, see Zoom’s System Requirement page.

How Many Zooms can I reserve?

To start, you may reserve up to 2 meetings per 30 days, per group/organization. We are currently only taking reservations through Friday, May 29.

Is Zoom Secure?

As millions flock to Zoom (and other services), privacy and security is rightfully a big concern as is true with any popular technology. You can read about everything you can do to ensure a secure meeting here.
